First Minister for Scotland Nicola Sturgeon announces she will be asking Scottish Parliament to trigger #IndyRef2.
A press conference took place this morning at which First Minister Nicola Sturgeon announced that the Scottish Government would be pursuing a second referendum for an independent Scotland, following the UK Government’s “refusal” to engage with Scotland during the #Brexit debates.
Sturgeon said “If Scotland can be ignored on an issue as important as our membershi…p of the EU and the single market then it is clear that our voice and our interests can be ignored at any time and on any issue…
“I can confirm today that next week I will seek the authority of the Scottish Parliament to agree with the UK Government the details of a Section 30 order, the procedure that will enable the Scottish Parliament to legislate for an independence referendum.”
The second referendum will be scheduled for late 2018, early 2019, once Scotland has more information about the likely deal the UK will receive following Brexit negotiations.
Sturgeon expressed confidence that the outcome of the second referendum for Scotland’s independence would be ‘Yes’. A pro-independence website has already gone live https://www.ref.scot/timeline and there is wide-spread coverage from both perspectives in the media.
