Bursaries

We have a limited number of bursaries available to help people cover travel and accommodation costs. In addition the bus from Inverness via Perth and Glasgow is free of charge: details here. Bursaries are available for the following people:

Rural Heroes! – people nominated by their MP, MSP or a community group which is part of our network will receive travel and accommodation costs.

Students – we can pay up to ?200 per person for students towards travel and accommodation costs.

Community councillors – we can pay for travel and accommodation for one community councillor from each community council.

Low income – people on a low income can ask for assistance for travel and accommodation. We can meet the full cost. We do not need to see evidence of your income and will not ask questions about your circumstances.

Additional support needs – people who need additional support to attend, such as a carer, or specialist accommodation or transport can ask for assistance with travel and accommodation of up to ?200 per person (plus ?200 for their carer if needed).

Bursaries are usually payable once we receive invoices and we pay within a fortnight, quicker if we can, by bank transfer.

To receive a bursary, book your place and email barbara@sra.scot to let her know you intend to claim a bursary and under which category. Barbara will confirm the details and send you a claim form. Bring this to the Rural Parliament with you or post it to us after the event.

Scottish Rural Action, the non-profit body which organises the Scottish Rural Parliament, has a new website which includes an online forum for communities to connect and share views and ideas.

Scottish Rural Action and the Scottish Rural Parliament have been given separate online identities to avoid confusion over their respective roles.

The Scottish Rural Parliament takes place every two years and started in 2014. The national high-profile event brings representatives of rural communities from across Scotland together with decision-makers. The event aims to raise the profile of rural needs and strengths, as well as identifying solutions to the challenges our communities face.

Scottish Rural Action is the legal entity which organises the Scottish Rural Parliament. SRA takes forward priorities voted on at the Rural Parliament and advocates on behalf of rural communities on a wide range of issues. We are the ‘go to’ organisation on rural issues in Scotland.
